New Puppy One-to-One: Home visit designed to introduce owners to important aspects of basic puppy care, puppy training exercises, socialisation and habituation. Effective socialisation and early training may help to prevent behavioural problems occuring as a puppy matures, so investing time in your puppy's training at the beginning of his life with you is a sensible step to take to ensure that you have a harmonious partnership for the next decade or more! The session covers several topics including:
- Socialisation - Habituation - Learning to be alone - Mouthing/play biting - Basic care (feeding, exercising, grooming, healthcare) - Games for mental stimulation - House training - Coming when called - Handling - Self control - Good manners e.g. around food, jumping up - Basic commands
If there is anything specific you would like to be covered in the session, please do ask.
Cost: £55.00 for a two hour visit which includes an information pack.
One to One Training: I can offer help with issues such as pulling on the lead, chasing and recall etc. The cost is £25.00 per hour and training sessions are tailored to suit you and your dog.
Behaviour Problems: I do not treat behaviour problems such as aggression, fears and phobias as I am still in training as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist. You are welcome to contact me to discuss your needs and I can give you details of qualified and registered behaviour counsellors.
At present the field of animal behaviour is unregulated in the UK and anyone can call themselves a behaviourist. Please check the credentials of anyone you approach for help. If you are paying someone a large amount of money you have the right to expect them to back up any claims about their expertise with appropriate documentation.
Please note that anyone treating your animal for a behavioural problem should first ask for a referral from your veterinary surgeon to identify any underlying medical problems.
One body that does screen and register behaviourists is the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and you can find details of qualified behaviourists local to you.
Remember that a qualified and experienced behaviourist or trainer is unlikely to recommend punitive measures to alter your dog's behaviour!
